This week was a VERY multicultural week as I'm sure you can imagine.
Karsyn shows us where we live.
Brooke shows us where Israel is...which is where the story of Hanukkah begins.
In preschool, we started with homemade menorahs, of course.
We learned that there are 8 candles plus a helper candle on a menorah. That makes 9.
We made a Star of David and used our yarn to "trace" the lines.
The most fun thing we do during Hanukkah Week is to play the dreidel. We made one out of a marshmallow, pretzel, and hershey's kiss.
Rafe with his marshmallow on the pretzel.
We had a Hanukkah Feast complete with latkes, rugelah, and fruit.
And some of us remembered the homemade menorah from the day before and made latkes into menorahs.
Getting ready to play the dreidel! The gelt is so fun to play with...and it's tasty, too.
Taking turns spinning.
Rafe hoping for a "gimmel"
Keen got a "nun" which means nothing happens.
Bailey practices her spinning skills.
Brooke keeps the dreidel on the table.
A winner!
Drooling over the Hanukkah gelt
Making a paper to show what we learned about Hanukkah.
Bailey shows us where Kwanzaa originated. It's the festival of the feast that is celebrated in parts of Africa. Its colors are black, red, and green.
Making a kwanzaa mosaic. There are 7 days of Kwanzaa and each day celebrates part of African heritage.
Sometimes the kids like to sit in MY spot and pretend that THEY are the teacher. Here they are thinking they're pretty hot stuff.
It was a great week and we're excited to celebrate Christmas starting next week. HOORAY!
