Week Eight: Pumpkins Week plus the Pumpkin Patch

We had another great week! There was lots of orange in our week. We learned all about pumpkins and how they are grown and we even got to go to the Pumpkin Patch on Thursday! We read “The Biggest Pumpkin” and “Pumpkin, Pumpkin” and “Pumpkin Eye” and “Five Little Pumpkins” and we loved making our own books of 5 Little Pumpkins, too.

We played Pumpkin, Pumpkin, JACK (a bit like Duck, Duck, Goose) and talked about what makes a pumpkin different from a jack-o-lantern. Our favorite book with a pumpkin was definitely “There was a Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything.”For snacks we ate pumpkin cookies and pumpkin-shaped sandwiches. Mmmmm! Cutting bread into pumpkin shapes was fun for everyone and we had lots of great helpers.

Then on Thursday, we went to the Willis Farm Pumpkin Patch. It was so fun to run and climb and pick out our own pumpkins. We got to play in the corn maze, too. It was a great week. Check out the pictures if you don't believe us...

Recipe for pumpkin cookies: 1 spice cake mix, 1 can of pumpkin, 1 cup chocolate chips.
Dump together.
Take turns stirring.
And keep taking turns.
It might seem like it's too thick.
Or that it's not working.
And while they're baking at 375 for 15 minutes, you might need another snack to tide you over.
And by then, you may forget to take a picture of the finished cookies and the kids devouring them. But take our word for it, they were awesome!

Practicing our cutting skills with orange strips.
And then gluing them on our pumpkin shapes.

See our five little pumpkins on the gate?
Every day we wash hands. More than once. And we are getting seriously good at it.
Pumpkin sandwich and a grin.

At the Pumpkin Patch! The day before was a freezing, windy day. This day was perfect.

Eastyn's impressive dismount. And my impressive camera work.
Desi with the pumpkins.
Sarah with a tiny squash/gourd she found. She carried it around for half an hour or more and then finally decided on a regular pumpkin to bring home.
Brooke and Desi on pumpkin "couches".
In the train with no engine. It was still fun to sit in the barrels!
With our pumpkins at the gate (almost like our song).
In the corn maze.
Peeking at Ms. Jana.

At the park for snack before coming home. It was a super end to a pumpkin-y week!
