Week Seven: Spiders Week plus a field trip

This week we talked all about spiders. We learned about how many legs they have, how many body parts they have, and why we are glad we have them (even though they’re not so cute). We played “Beetle, Beetle, Wolf Spider” and “Five Little Spiders” and we read books about Halloween and spiders, including “Be Nice to Spiders” and “I Know an Old Lady” and “Spider” which was the funniest book we’ve read all year.

We also did some spider baking (pretzel legs in spider cookies, of course!). We sorted spiders by color, made spider hats and played spider on the huge web we had on the floor. We especially loved to sing “There’s a Spider on the Floor” while we acted scared. We ate spider sandwiches (pretzels make great spider legs) and spider webs (noodles). We also went on a hunt for spider webs, acted like wolf spiders (chasing) and crab spiders (camouflaged) and burrowing spiders (sitting in a hole and trapping bugs that come by). We worked on worksheets, sang “Over in the Meadow”, and learned sign language for the letter “Ss”.

And if that wasn't enough--we took a field trip to the hospital! Every year the Summit Healthcare ER puts on a Children's Day that is spectacular! We saw the ambulance, helicopter, and hospital rooms. We learned that it is not scary to go to the hospital and how important it is to wash our hands every day.

Here's what it looked like:

My favorite cookie recipe for preschoolers: 1 cake mix box, 1 stick butter, 1 egg.
Smooshing the softened butter.

Mixing it all together.
Eating our bug pizzas. Yum!

Cooling spiders.

Sorting spiders.

Stuck in the web!
Chasing prey like a wolf spider!
Sarah with a little spider fashion...cute hair, girl!
Spiders in their web.
Sarah the Spider!
Working on Ss papers.
At the hospital.
Ezra gets a turn.
Checking Karsyn's Pulse/Ox
Eastyn is not as worried as he looks.
Stacy helps Sarah.
How high can this bed go??
On the helicopter.

In the ambulance.

Practicing our mad hand-washing skills.
Getting our energy out before we go home.
Saying Thank You to the ER and all the great helpers that gave us a fun day!
